Trump Signals Key Decision on Russia, Ukraine
While addressing the media from the Oval Office, Trump voiced his displeasure over recent Russian attacks that impacted a U.S.-affiliated manufacturing site functioning inside Ukraine.
“I’m not happy about it, and I’m not happy about anything having to do with that war,” he remarked.
"Over the next two weeks, we’re going to find out which way it’s going to go. And I better be very happy.”
When questioned about what might unfold in the coming two weeks, Trump responded: “I'm going to make a decision as to what we do, and it's going to be a very important decision, and that's whether or not it's massive sanctions or massive tariffs or both, or do we do nothing and say it's your fight?”
Lately, Trump has been actively pursuing avenues to end the hostilities in Ukraine.
He engaged in multiple discussions with both parties involved, including a high-profile meeting with Russian President Putin in Alaska on August 15.
He also revealed that plans are underway for a face-to-face encounter between Ukrainian President Zelenskyy and Putin.
Earlier that same day, he cautiously voiced hope that dialogue could ultimately be achieved between the two leaders.
“We’re going to see if Putin and Zelenskyy will be working together,” Trump commented while touring The People’s House museum in Washington.
“That’s like oil and vinegar a little bit. They don’t get along too well, for obvious reasons, but we’ll see.”
