Erdogan, Putin Discuss Alaska Summit
(MENAFN) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a phone conversation on Wednesday, during which they reviewed the recent summit held in Alaska between the leaders of the United States and Russia.
Alongside discussions on international diplomacy, the two leaders also addressed matters of commerce and cooperation between their nations.
According to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, which shared details of the call on the Turkish social media platform NSosyal, “During the call, the outcomes of the Alaska summit and Türkiye-Russia bilateral relations, particularly trade ties, were discussed.”
This highlights that both global and regional topics were on the agenda, with a specific emphasis on economic partnerships.
In the same statement, it was conveyed that “President Erdogan stated that he has been closely following developments related to the peace process,” and further underscored that since the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine, Türkiye has “sincerely strived to achieve a just peace.”
Erdogan reiterated his support for initiatives that aim to secure “lasting peace with the participation of all parties.”
President Putin, for his part, acknowledged Türkiye’s diplomatic involvement.
“President Putin, drawing attention to the Istanbul Process, thanked President Erdogan for hosting the peace talks and for Türkiye’s efforts,” the statement noted, referring to earlier attempts at negotiation facilitated in Istanbul.
Finally, the two leaders “agreed on the importance of maintaining dialogue between the two countries,” reaffirming their commitment to ongoing communication and cooperation across various domains.
