Torrential Rains Continue to Devastate Pakistan
(MENAFN) Relentless downpours and widespread flooding have led to the loss of 43 additional lives across Pakistan within a single day, according to the national and regional disaster management organizations.
This latest surge in fatalities has brought the total number of deaths since August 14 to a staggering 437, as reported on Wednesday.
Out of the newly recorded casualties, 21 were reported in the mountainous Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, which has been severely impacted by flood-related disasters over the past week.
This region alone has witnessed 377 deaths in just six days.
In southern Sindh, 11 more individuals lost their lives, while an equal number of fatalities were confirmed in the northern Gilgit-Baltistan area within the same 24-hour period.
The elevated terrain of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continues to suffer from intense rainfall and flooding.
Officials have cautioned that this latest cycle of heavy rain is expected to persist until Thursday, further worsening the situation.
On Tuesday, the southern coastal metropolis of Karachi experienced torrential rainfall, which resulted in significant damage to infrastructure and severe disruption to everyday activities in the nation’s key economic center.
The National Disaster Management Authority has issued alerts forecasting more heavy rainfall in Karachi and additional areas of Sindh within the next day, warning that these conditions could spark further floods.
Rescue and aid efforts are actively underway in the districts of Buner, Swat, and Swabi, where local authorities report that numerous individuals are still unaccounted for.
Among these regions, Buner remains the most severely affected.
Officials confirmed that six more bodies have been pulled from the debris, bringing the district’s death count to 228 since last Friday.
