Ukraine Reports 14 Injuries in Overnight Russian Drone Strike
(MENAFN) Ukraine reported that at least 14 people were wounded during a Russian drone strike overnight in the northeastern Sumy region.
“Last night, a drone strike on Okhtyrka in the Sumy region injured 14 people. A family with wounded children – 5 months, 4 years, and 6 years old – sought assistance after the attack,” President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated on US social media platform X.
In a separate assault, Zelenskyy revealed that a glide bomb strike hit five apartment buildings in Kostiantynivka, located in the eastern Donetsk region. “Noting at least three people still remain under the rubble, Zelenskyy said rescue operation in the key industrial city continued.”
President Zelenskyy also condemned what he described as a treacherous attack on a gas distribution facility in Ukraine’s Odesa region, while noting that artillery shelling struck the Chernihiv, Kharkiv, and Poltava regions. He stated that Russian forces launched over 60 drones along with a ballistic missile in the course of the night’s assault.
“All of these are demonstrative strikes that only confirm the need to put pressure on Moscow, the need to impose new sanctions and tariffs until diplomacy is fully effective,” Zelenskyy asserted. He emphasized Ukraine’s urgent demand for “strong security guarantees to ensure a ‘truly reliable and lasting peace.’”
The Ukrainian Air Force separately announced that its air defenses successfully shot down 62 out of 93 drones and one of two Iskander-M ballistic missiles launched by Russia.
Earlier, Odesa Governor Oleh Kiper posted on Telegram that “infrastructure and production facilities” in Izmail, a city near Ukraine’s border with Romania, sustained damage from a Russian drone strike.
Russian officials have yet to issue a statement regarding the attacks.
These developments occur amid intensified diplomatic efforts led by US President Donald Trump to broker a resolution to the nearly three-and-a-half-year conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
