Trump declares ‘most likely’ successor
“I think most likely, in all fairness. He’s the vice president,” Trump responded, noting that it’s still early to finalize a nominee. “He’s doing a great job and would probably be the favorite at this point,” the president added.
Trump also mentioned the possibility of Vance teaming up with Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who ran unsuccessfully for president in 2016, on a future Republican ticket.
When asked earlier on CNBC’s ‘Squawk Box’ about a potential reelection bid, Trump said, “No, probably not,” though he expressed interest by saying, “I’d like to run. I have the best poll numbers I’ve ever had.”
Despite previously hinting at a possible third term, Trump has consistently ruled out running again. In April, he said supporters encouraged him to run, but noted that changing the constitutional limit of two terms would be difficult.
Earlier this year, Republican Congressman Andy Ogles proposed a constitutional amendment allowing nonconsecutive third terms, but the idea has not gained significant support.
